Veterans from various local Armed Service organizations, including the Marine Corps League Detachment 1328, the American Legion Post 18, American Legion Riders and Veterans of Foreign Wars, participated in the annual Veterans Day ceremony on 11/11 at 11 onTuesday, Nov, 11, 2025 at the American Legion Hall.
American Legion Post 18 Commander Joseph Drake, Navy (Retired), served as master of ceremonies. After the Salute to the Colors, the Hi Lo Silvers, a local women's singing group, led by Valdeen Wooton sang The National Anthem, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

Difficult Driving Conditions in Silver City Area
NM 15 and NM 152 may be icy in areas due to snow melt. Please drive with caution, reduce speed, and obey all posted traffic signs. The NMDOT will continue to monitor conditions. This event will be updated as conditions change.

FLOODING – Mimbres/Lake Roberts Area
NM 35 from milepost 27 to 5, Mimbres, has water running over the roadway at low water crossings, roadway is still passable. NMDOT is currently monitoring and will notify as conditions change.
When the roadway is flooded do not cross and seek an alternate route. Turn around, don’t drown.
Marshalls is issuing a correction regarding the grand opening date of its new Silver City store, originally announced as November 20. Due to an unexpected delay, the store will now officially open to the public on November 21.
The grand opening event will take place on November 21 from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. All other details regarding the new store, including its location, offerings, and regular hours, remain unchanged. We look forward to welcoming shoppers in Silver City on the updated opening day.

The annual Marine Corps Birthday event happens each year on Nov. 10, celebrating the day in 1775 when the Marine Corps was founded before the United States of America was even a country. Already, the Army, Navy and Marine Corps were created to protect the fledgling country.
This year, the Marine Corps celebrates its 250th birthday. According to the moderator and one of the organizers of the event, Mst. Gy. Sgt Dean Bearup, the banquet celebrating this milestone anniversary brought about 180 veterans of all armed services and guests to celebrate the event.

On November 13 Attorney General Raul Torrez once again tried to badger Sixth Judicial District Judge Jarod Hofacket into reinstating parts of the AG's lawsuit against Dr. Shepard. In a previous Beat article*, the weaknesses of the AG's original lawsuit were listed by Dr. Shepard's attorney. Earlier the judge dismissed parts of the lawsuit in August. But now the AG is trying to get them reinstated.
Shepard's attorney is arguing that a reconsideration of a judge's order should only come under one of three scenarios — a change in fact, a change in law, or to correct errors. Since this hasn't occurred, the AG's request should be ignored.
In reading the state attorney's argument for reopening the parts of the case dismissed, it appears that the state merely wants to harass Dr. Shepard. Is that because Shepard filed a civil RICO** lawsuit against people Santa Fe wants to protect?
